Some of Blackbrook Zoo’s most popular animals are the four species of lemur, having fun in Lemur Lodge!

They love to party! The two ring-tailed lemurs live with our three black and white ruffed lemurs, their next door neighbours are our friendly red-ruffed lemurs and last but not least are our rare mongoose lemurs.

Home from home at the Lodge, our lovely lemurs enjoy clambering about their rope-walks, finding food in their enclosures and sunning themselves on pleasant days!

Did you know?

  • All lemurs come from only one island in the world – Madagascar, off the coast of Africa!
  • Lemurs are from a family of primates called prosimians – which means primitive monkeys!
  • There are 99 living species of lemur – all of them at least near threatened, and many endangered, mostly due to loss of habitat on Madagascar!
